A popular Lisle restaurant known for its Midwest cuisine and a space to celebrate good times and meaningful milestones will serve its last meal and rounds of drinks this weekend after announcing that it will be closing permanently to start 2024.
Wheatstack, which is located in the clubhouse at River Bend Golf Club, announced in a social media post that it will close after opening for business for the final time on Sunday. The eatery’s management wrote in the post that the decision to shutter operations comes with a heavy heart.

The facility – built by Yorkville-based Whitetail Ridge Golf Club – has been getting a warm reception since opening in late November at 3360 Station Drive, just west of Orchard Road.

Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton has retained its designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an Audubon International program.

Planning continues for the new Glencoe Golf Club clubhouse both for the design of the building and private fundraising efforts coinciding with the taxpayer investment.
On Nov. 16, Glencoe Village Board Trustees received a presentation regarding the village’s ad hoc committee’s recommendation for a “Prairie-style” design for the exterior of the clubhouse building that will include a pro shop and dining facilities.

Canal Shores Golf Course in Evanston, Ill., is most known for its unique setting in the middle of a bustling suburb of Chicago, for the trains that chug along right by a few holes and for the fact that the course is where comedian Bill Murray and his brother grew up playing and working long before the Caddyshack days.

“It was kind of a glorified hot dog stand,” said Michael Madden.
So Madden – a Wilmette native who launched a pair of Left Coast Food & Juice concepts in the city – decided to tackle a refresh.
“My education, my friends, my family, the game of golf, everything I got from this amazing town, and this is sort of my way to give back to the community,” he said.

Projects from nine golf facilities across the United States have been cited for their work with ASGCA members in addressing unique environmental challenges.

The Evans Scholars Foundation has a long history of helping golf caddies further their education. According to the Glenview-based non-profit, a record 1,130 Evans Scholars currently attend 24 universities nationwide. The Illinois Golf Hall of Fame will induct its 20th class on Nov. 10, and selection committee chairman Tim Cronin says "it couldn't be more diverse or vibrant."
Heading the six-member class are two longtime club professionals, Tim O'Neal and Bruce Patterson, and Randy Kane, who served as the first Chicago District Golf Association turf grass director from 1985-2006.

DuPage County Forest Preserve officials will host an open house at the Maple Meadows golf course in Wood Dale on Wednesday to gather feedback on a proposed multimillion-dollar renovation of the property.

The Oak Brook Village Board has decided to test the waters for possibly bringing in a private sector business to take over operation of food and beverage management for the Oak Brook Golf Club, Bath & Tennis Club and Poolside Cafe.

antigny Golf announced today major renovation plans for its 27-hole golf complex, building upon a 34-year legacy of championship golf surrounded by natural beauty. Construction is set to begin in June 2024 on the Hillside nine, followed by the Woodside and Lakeside nines in succeeding years, with all renovations projected to finish by summer 2027. For the duration of the process, Cantigny Golf will maintain 18 holes open for play. In addition, Youth Links, the 9-hole golf course for junior players, will remain open throughout construction.
Last year's Illinois golf season had a late addition, a tournament called LIV Tour Chicago staged at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove. The LIV Tour was a new thing then, and Rich Harvest hosted one of just eight tournaments in the controversial circuit's first season.

On Saturday, September 2, the new practice green was unveiled. This new practice area is immense, measuring 90 yards long by 30 yards wide, that is more than 23,400 square feet! Mimicking the Crook’s eighteen real greens, the practice green has multiple ridges and undulations with an elevation change of 8 feet. Chipping is permitted so golfers can check the firmness, run-out, and speed of these short shots, and the practice area also features a sand bunker.

Oak Brook officials have decided to investigate discrepancies found recently with inventory at the Oak Brook Golf Club Pro Shop.
A review of the audit results of an Aug. 14 planned inventory by village staff revealed that significant discrepancies exist between reported sales and inventory versus actual inventory on hand, Village President Larry Herman said.
“The village takes this matter very seriously, and an internal investigation to determine the extent of the issue, identify the cause of the discrepancies, and rectify the situation has been launched,” he said.

In April, she won her 14-15 girls age group at the national Drive, Chip & Putt contest at Augusta National Golf Club.

John Kaczkowski, the President and CEO of the Western Golf Association, said the WGA brings in far more for the Evans Scholars program when it goes to sites like Caves Valley in Maryland (2021) and Wilmington Country Club in Delaware (2022).
"Chicago has everything," said Kaczkowski, who resides in Mount Prospect. "We are so spoiled when it comes to entertainment possibilities.
"When we go to other towns, they don't have a lot of major things. They certainly don't have golf. So a lot of these markets are golf-starved. ... If you have an event once every 10 years, you're gonna support it."

"Just randomly saw that today, and then I had to think about it," Homa said.
Homa broke the record even with two bogeys, making 10 birdies in his round of 8-under 62 that gave him a two-shot lead over Kirk (66) going into the weekend of the FedEx Cup postseason event that determines who goes to Tour Championship.

Olympia Fields Country Club was the largest country club in the world when its North Course opened in 1923, giving the club its fourth 18-hole course. Trace Crowe, a conditional member the last two seasons who at times struggled to simply gain entry to Korn Ferry Tour fields, held off Patrick Fishburn and won the NV5 Invitational presented by Old National Bank with a par on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff Sunday afternoon at The Glen Club.

A high-tech mini golf experience is scheduled to putt its way into Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center in Skokie as mall officials look to attract consumers in an evolving business environment.

The Hunger Resource Network, which provides food for the needy, is holding a fundraiser titled “Driving the Need to Feed” at the Chevy Chase golf course in Wheeling on August 23, said Ky Smith development director with HRN. She said HRN is selling 2,000 numbered golf balls which will be hoisted above a green on the course and then dropped from a high elevation. The three balls that land closest to the cup will be winners.

After nearly a year of renovations that totaled $3.5 million, Springbrook Golf Course is ready to reopen. The golf course will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 14 that includes refreshments, a putting contest and remarks from Naperville officials.
Springbrook has been temporarily closed since crews began renovations to the course in August 2022. The improvements included adding bridges, ponds and paths to the course, replacing tees and bunkers and updating green surrounds.
Construction wrapped in early 2023, but Springbrook stayed closed this spring to give new turf time to grow.

Built in 1919, Canal Shores is a 3,600-yard, par-60 course that straddles Evanston and Wilmette on 82 acres of land owned by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District land along the waters of the North Shore Channel.
Plans for the course center on turning Hole 1 into a youth golf training headquarters and making the course more playable while maintaining its unique qualities, officials said.
Construction has begun on the site, which officials hope will reopen in July 2024. Quitno Golf Designs and Wadsworth Construction head up the project.

After 100+ years, the turf and infrastructure of Canal Shores Golf Course, according to the USGA Green Section and irrigation engineers, is in an “end of life” state. The Canal Shores Board of Trustees, staff, and volunteers have worked hard for years to “apply another coat of paint to an old house,” but for this cherished course to survive and still be a vital part of the combined communities, massive renovation was needed.

Since the first time he swung a golf club, Ahmad Raoul has been in love with the game.
Raoul, a Mt. Carmel alum and now rising sophomore at Winston-Salem State College, is a graduate of the First Tee of Greater Chicago. That program helped hook him up with a pretty amazing opportunity leading up to the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte.
Raoul, and two other First Tee graduates and current HBCU students, got to play in a Pro-Am with Rory McIlroy.

Though the ball will travel the same distance it would on an actual golf course, a chip inside will make it appear on a screen a few feet away from the golfer as if it landed on a green at Augusta National Golf Club or a seaside fairway at Pebble Beach.

Glenbrook North freshman Martha Kuwahara wanted redemption, and she earned it. A year ago she tied for ninth out of 10 contestants in her age group at the 2022 Drive, Chip & Putt National Finals.

Starting in July, the course will close several holes at a time, so that by Aug. 1, all 18 greens will be off limits to duffers, hackers, and future superstars. A $5.9 million facelift will get the 103-year-old facility ready to last another century.

For 37 years the Chicago Golf Show was considered the unofficial start to the Chicago golf season. And then the pandemic hit.
The show was canceled in 2021 and 2022 because of pandemic concerns, but it's back this weekend in full force at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. It'll feature Colt Knost, an on-course TV reporter for CBS, and Paige Spiranac, a prominent social media influencer on golf, sports and fitness.

The 39th Annual Chicago Golf Show will be at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center from Friday, February 24th to Sunday, February 26th at 5555 N. River Rd in Rosemont, IL. The Chicago Golf Show is the longest-running consumer show in US history.

Mayor Vernard Alsberry and the Village of Hazel Crest on Tuesday voted unanimously to annex the Calumet Country Club property located at 175th St. and Dixie Hwy. “This is a great opportunity for the Southland,” said Mayor Alsberry. “We have been working hard to revitalize the village and this opportunity will allow for further investments in our community.” The proposed development of the land includes a number of businesses and amenities for the village and surrounding communities to enjoy.

22 students from the city of Chicago worked through their high school careers as golf caddies under the Evans Scholars program sponsored by the Western Golf Association, eventually earning full-ride scholarships.

Recently, 70 Chicagoland high school seniors including one from Des Plaines and another from Glenview, found out they had been awarded the Western Golf Association’s Chick Evans Scholarship, a full, four-year housing and tuition scholarship and the nation’s largest privately funded scholarship program. The full tuition and housing college scholarship is valued at an estimated $120,000 over four years.

Naperville Park Board commissioners voted Thursday to waive normal bidding procedures so water can be restored as quickly as possible to the Naperbrook Golf Course clubhouse.
The clubhouse, located at 22204 W. 111th St., began experiencing water problems in mid-December, requiring a contractor to remove the well, motor and piping for inspection, Park District Executive Director Brad Wilson said.
