Randall Oaks Golf Club Overview
Established in 1965, Randall Oaks Golf Club, owned by the West Dundee Park District, has undergone significant transformations since its early years, as noted by the Cardunal Free Press Newspaper in February 1972: "Although some past years at Randall Oaks looked rather dismal, the tide is now turning, and it is predictable that the golf course will become a very valuable asset to Dundee Township." Quite the understatement, in my humble opinion. Of course, the place only cost $5 to play in 1970. Randall Oaks has turned into an incredible golf playground. The facility features a championship 18-hole course, as well as two separate short courses – the 3-hole Acorn course and the 4-hole Links Learning Center. Beyond the diverse courses, the venue offers fantastic practice facilities. And of course, with “Oaks” in the name, you can expect the prominent presence of large trees throughout the course.
Measuring 6,598 yards with a 71.5 course rating and 132 slope, the club promises a challenging yet scenic round on its beautifully manicured grounds. The track is comparable in difficulty to
Blackberry Oaks,
Bartlett Hills, and
Old Oak.
Prepare for hilly terrain, strategically placed ponds (8 to be exact), and fairways on the wider side. While mature trees separate most holes, each hole presents its own unique character and demands planning for a good score. Wildlife sightings, particularly graceful Blue Herons, add to the course's natural ambiance. No housing developments intrude on the property -- Randall Oaks is all about golf. One particular test awaits at the par-5 9th hole, clocking in at over 600 yards, one of the few in Chicagoland that long.
Randall Oaks boasts a multi-faceted
practice facility
that caters to golfers of all levels. Beyond the grass tee driving range, split into upper and lower sections, the course offers a multitude of practice greens, including two dedicated putting and chipping greens near the 1st hole, a large putting-only green by the 10th tee, a chipping green near the 10th, and a bunker green for trap practice. For further honing your skills, two short courses are available: the 3-hole Acorn Course with holes ranging from 111 to 134 yards in the northeast corner, and the 4-hole Links Learning Center next to the clubhouse, featuring holes from 45 to 93 yards. Additionally, the well-stocked
pro shop
offers a wide range of merchandise and clubs, while the clean, spacious, and modern clubhouse features a restaurant, the 26th Bar & Grill, serving upscale bar food and boasting ample outdoor seating. The comprehensive experience provided by Randall Oaks is basically muni paradise.
