Oak Hills Country Club Overview
The April 12th, 1923 issue of the Chicago Tribune mentioned “construction work [at Oak Hills] is complete and Dave McIntosh plans to start seeding shortly.” Back then, this was an 18-hole course, but these days Oak Hills is a 9-hole affair that snakes through the homes of the Oak Hills Country Club Village. As I write this in 2023, this marks the 100th anniversary of Oak Hills!
While Oak Hills is only 2,517 yards, it’s not a pushover by any stretch, due to the hundreds of trees that line the tight fairways here. After all, Oak is in the name. And when you get respite from the trees, water hazards and homes get in the mix to make things feel claustrophobic. Water is in play on six of the nine holes. And the elevation changes spice things up too -- remember, Hills is also in the name.
The small but modern-feeling clubhouse houses a combo pro shop and bar area. The bar has a full drink and cocktail menu, along with snacks, and several flat screen TVs. The pro shop has golf essentials like balls and tees, but not a lot of gear to offer -- to be expected from a 9-hole course. Note that the course has a “no beginners” rule stated on a sign outside. Maybe not your best option if this is your first time swinging a club.
