Glenview Park Golf Club Overview
The 18-hole Glenview Park Golf Course, not to be confused with
The Glen Club,
Glenview Prairie Club,
Glen View Club (private),
or any of the other clubs with Glen in their names, boasts a long history dating back to its inception as Glenacres Country Club in 1925. Originally designed by the renowned
Joe Roseman, who also pioneered mowing equipment for golf courses, the course underwent name changes over the years, from Glenacres to Elmgate in 1929, and later to Chesterfield Country Club from 1950 to 1955. In 1955, the Glenview Park District purchased the course for $550,000 and rebranded it as Glenview Park Golf Course, a name it has retained since then. Under the ownership of the Glenview Park District, the course underwent extensive renovations in 2014, overseen by architect Rick Jacobson, and subsequently reopened in 2015.
The track is beautifully maintained and has 5 ponds strategically placed to challenge golfers. Bunkers are plentiful, lining both fairways and greens. Mature trees border most fairways, leaving little room for error off the tee. No homes are located within the course boundaries to contend with, although they do border the property. The muni itself is flat and very walkable at 6,113 yards from the back tees, playing to a par 70 with a course rating of 69.6 and a slope of 128. This puts Glenview Park in similar territory difficulty-wise to courses like
Coyote Run,
Bloomingdale GC, and
Cary CC.
There are only two par-5’s on the scorecard.
While there's no driving range at Glenview Park, golfers can warm up with hitting nets. A large putting green is located between the clubhouse and the first tee. There’s also an “instructional area” on the northern part of the property in a triangular area between holes 14, 15, and 17, with a very short range and a small green with a bunker. However I don’t think this is open to the general public. The pro shop offers a good variety of merch, including standard golf essentials like balls and gloves, as well as clothing, golf bags, shoes, and more. The clubhouse, which is modern and attractive, also houses a restaurant named
Coarse Italian.
