Wedgewood Golf Course Overview
One of three Joliet Park District courses, Wedgewood opened in 1970, actually making it the newest of the bunch. The property is bordered by the Dupage River on the north which comes into play on two holes. The popular and historic Joliet Amateur Championship is played here every year, which regularly draws close to 200 golfers.
Par is 71 on Wedgewood’s layout due to three par-3 holes on the back nine. The track measures 6,704 yards from the back tees, with a rating of 71.4 and slope of 127. The design is a little quirky in that almost all the fairways are consistent corridors about 27 yards wide, until you get to hole 16. Then Wedgewood lets its hair down and things open up a bit with more fluid designs. Speaking of fluids, there’s five ponds on the property in addition to the aforementioned Dupage River. Water comes into play on ten holes. The course is mostly flat, but wind is pretty constant here.
Wedgewood has a big driving range with both mats and grass tees, plus it’s lit at night. There’s a nice short game practice area with a bunker to calibrate your wedges, plus another putting green. The pro shop is well stocked with merch. The restaurant here has classic bar food and a really solid hot dog.
