The word closed feels inadequate, like a closed zoo at night. The animals are still there. Closed is final. Calumet feels more like a held breath. There is hope, and hope matters here. Not the thin, speculative kind. The kind rooted in the fact that great things rarely disappear completely. They wait. They rest. Calumet’s bones are still there. The greens that once terrified and delighted are still shaped by the same hands and ideas that made them special. The routing still makes sense. The story still reads. When Calumet returns (and it feels right to say when not if) it won’t need reinvention. It will need recognition. Recognition that this was never just a golf course. Calumet is a place where architecture, land, and human ambition briefly agreed to cooperate. A place that taught you something about the joy of getting something exactly right. You can’t recreate the moments. You honor them by remembering how they felt. You honor them by making damn sure Calumet can give again.

Calumet Country Club felt less like a place you went and more like a place that happened to you. The details of those moments aren’t permanent as much as the feeling of being shockingly aligned with the world. Step out of the car and the air is cleaner and more crisp than anything you’ve breathed before. In this moment your life feels like it might divide into a before and after. Calumet lives in that same register. Not a golf course, exactly. A memory. The first time I walked its ground it felt like arriving late to a conversation that was carrying on for decades and was kind enough not to stop just because I showed up. No forced drama. No manufactured hero shots. Just ground that knows what it wants to do. It has always known. Bold, canted greens. Bunkering that felt less like decoration and more like punctuation. Holes that revealed themselves slowly, the way a good sentence does when you reread it. The course didn’t flatter you, but it told the truth. Calumet told it plainly.

Closed at end of 2025. Rumors of it coming back! If so, let me loose with a chainsaw so I can bring this baby back to life! Was fine as a public track. Didn't overcharge for condition it was in, and I really enjoyed the layout.
