Editorial Policy

Last updated: May 14, 2026

GolfScout is an independent golf media site covering public golf courses and the local golf scene in the Chicagoland area. This page describes how content is produced, reviewed, and maintained, and how we handle our relationships with partners and sponsors.

Who Produces Our Content

All editorial content on GolfScout (including course documentation, rankings, data analysis, news articles, and interviews) is written by Alex Collins, the site's founder. User-submitted field reports, which appear on individual course pages, are submitted by GolfScout readers and reviewed by Alex before publication. Alex has personally visited and photographed over 200 Chicagoland public golf courses since 2022. His writing reflects first-hand, on-the-ground experience rather than secondhand research or aggregated information.

Photography & Images

Every course photo on GolfScout is taken by Alex personally, during on-site visits to the golf clubs documented on the website. Images are typically captured on a mobile phone and lightly enhanced for clarity and color. Faces of individuals appearing in course photos are blurred where possible, and we make reasonable efforts to remove other people from course photos when it makes sense to do so.

Some content on GolfScout includes third-party imagery used with permission or under fair use. This may include, but is not limited to promotional material from partners, logos and images associated with golf media personalities featured in our glossary content, and event imagery sourced from scramble and outing organizers for the GolfScout Events Hub. User-submitted event images are published as provided by event organizers.

Editorial Independence

GolfScout's editorial content is produced independently. Our media partnerships with the Evans Scholars Invitational and TheGrint do not influence our rankings, commentary, conclusions, or editorial decisions. Partners and sponsors do not direct, approve, or veto editorial content.

Sponsored and Partner Content

If GolfScout publishes content that is sponsored by or produced in collaboration with a commercial partner, it will be clearly labeled as such at the top of the page. Readers should always be able to distinguish editorial content from sponsored content. As of the date of this policy, all published articles on GolfScout are editorially independent.

Use of Artificial Intelligence

Editorial content on GolfScout reflects the research, first-hand knowledge, and experience of the site's founder. Some content (particularly course overviews and data analysis) is extensively researched and time-intensive to produce. AI tools may be used for proofreading and clarity, but are never used as content generators. All published content is reviewed, edited, and approved by the founder, who takes full editorial responsibility for everything on the site.

Corrections Policy

GolfScout is committed to accuracy. If a factual error is identified in any published content, we will correct it promptly. Significant corrections will be noted at the bottom of the relevant article with a brief description of what was changed and when. If you believe something on this site is factually incorrect, please contact the author at [email protected].

Linking and Sources

Where GolfScout references external sources such as statistics, historical records, quotes, or news reports, we link to the original source where possible. We do not republish copyrighted content from other publications.
