Latest Site Updates

I’ve spent 2 years visiting golf courses and documenting them for this website. It’s taken that long to process all the photos, scan the scorecards, and enter all the courses into the database. With almost 200 golf courses on the website, it was a major project that took me thousands of hours to complete! I’m now in the process of adding longer and more useful course descriptions, adding an additional 50+ hot dogs into the hot dog ratings, and more. And luckily, site traffic is growing and people seem to be finding utility in the project.

One problem with the site at the moment is that with so many courses, any time I make an update to one of them (with a new course overview or additional photos) it’s really hard to tell. So I’ll document any website changes here, and folks can see what’s new. And as always, contact me with any suggestions or comments. Thanks!

• 7/1/24: Updated 9 hole and 18 hole sortable course lists to with a key to denote whether a course is owned by the Chicago Park District, or forest preserves of Cook County, Lake County, or DuPage County. Also added a tag to highlight if the course is one of 6 in the Chicagoland area with three 9-hole courses designed to be played as an 18 hole course.
• 6/26/24: Updated the green fees for 2024 on all ~200 golf courses on the site.
• 6/8/24: Added 40 news articles to various course pages.
• 6/1/24: Enabled Cloudflare caching on the site. This means the entire site (especially the images) will load much, much faster than they were before.
• 5/11/24: Published an article examining Titleist golf ball print ads from the 1930s to today.
• 5/11/24: Added about 90 photos for all the golf holes at Cog Hill #1.
• 5/1/24: Added a news module to the golf course main page. If we have news about a course, it will show up. Here's an example.
• 3/30/24: Updated the hot dog ratings with 61 new meat missiles, bringing it to a total of 98 hot dogs.
• 3/29/24: New content feature: the top 10 longest golf holes in Chicagoland.
• 3/17/24: Created this "Site updates" page.
• 3/9/24: Added a much more substantial Glenview Park Golf Course course description.
• 3/8/24: Added a much more substantial Robert A. Black Golf Course course description.
• 3/1/24: New content -- added sortable course lists. Sort all the 9 and 18 hole courses in Chicagoland by course rating, slope, length, cost, etc.
• 2/27/24: Updated the Belmont Golf Club course description. I still have new photos to add to this page though. Will get to it eventually...
• 2/25/24: Finished adding all the courses from the backlog. In all, it was 196 courses at 174 clubs.
